ELGA (ESTHER) KRON STULMAN

(1932-2003)

The late Elga Stulman was born in Kassel, Germany, where her parents were both physicians. Her father was the President of his synagogue but did not give his daughter a Jewish education. The family came to New York City in 1939. After graduating from Hunter College High School and Brown University, Elga married Stephen Stulman and raised four children. She went on to receive Masters Degrees from Bank Street College of Education and Columbia University School of Social Work and became a Psychiatric Social Worker. A Board Member of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun and The Conservative Synagogue of The Hamptons; at age 61, she began studying at the Drisha Institute for Jewish (Women’s) Education and it transformed her life. “It was a profound level of learning…an intellectual, emotional and spiritual experience which changed the way I related to my peers, family and community”. Elga became a Board Member of Drisha and their Summer Program is named in her Memory.
